Great importance has been attached to the building of public health service system.There are 298 medical and health care institutions of all types and levels, of which 31 under the administration of the Health Bureau of Nanhui District and 14 being health service centers of communities. By the end of 2005, the number of people engaged in health care service has reached 4232, of which 3370 are staff with expertise.
The rural medical and health security system has made further progress. 385,000 people are covered by the cooperative security system.
The number of annual outpatient and emergency visits are 2,617,500 person times, hospitalization 84243 person times and release from hospital 83494 person times.
